In a major breakthrough against organized crime, Mexican armed forces have killed Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, widely known as “El Mencho,” during a military operation in the western state of Jalisco. El Mencho was the leader of the powerful Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), considered one of the most dangerous drug trafficking groups operating across Mexico and the United States over the past decade. According to an official statement, the Mexican army launched a targeted operation to capture the cartel leader. During the confrontation, El Mencho was seriously injured. Authorities said he died while being transported to Mexico City for medical treatment. The United States government had previously announced a $15 million reward for information leading to his capture, highlighting his role in large-scale drug trafficking, violence, and arms smuggling. During the raid, security forces seized armored vehicles, rocket launchers, and other high-powered weapons. The operation marks a significant development in Mexico’s ongoing fight against organized crime and cartel violence.
