A major development has emerged from Iran, where Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of Ali Khamenei, has reportedly been selected as the country’s new Supreme Leader. The decision was made by the powerful Assembly of Experts, the constitutional body responsible for appointing Iran’s supreme leadership. The announcement comes after the reported death of Ali Khamenei during the IsraelUnited States attacks on February 28, which had created uncertainty over Iran’s leadership succession. For several days, speculation surrounded the identity of the next leader, with Mojtaba Khamenei widely considered one of the main contenders. Following the announcement, celebrations reportedly broke out in several Iranian cities. Supporters of Mojtaba Khamenei gathered on the streets, chanting slogans and setting off fireworks to celebrate his appointment. Many see him as the figure who will carry forward the political and religious legacy of his father. Mojtaba Khamenei is known as a Shia cleric and is believed to have close ties with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), one of the most powerful institutions in Iran. Earlier, Donald Trump had reportedly warned that if Mojtaba Khamenei became Supreme Leader without U.S. approval, there could be severe consequences. Despite such warnings, the Assembly of Experts has now finalized his appointment, ending the suspense surrounding Iran’s leadership transition.
