FlyDubai co-pilot identified as an Omani national after an alleged cockpit attack. Investigators examine aviation security and passenger safety.

Dubai / Riyadh: Investigators are examining a serious aviation security incident involving a FlyDubai flight after its co-pilot allegedly attacked the captain and attempted to seize control of the aircraft.

The co-pilot has been identified as Hamam al-Hammami, an Omani national. According to reports, the incident involved the use of a cockpit crash axe, while passengers and other individuals intervened to prevent further escalation.

The aircraft, carrying 182 people, eventually landed safely in Saudi Arabia. Authorities are investigating the suspect's background and whether he acted alone.

The incident has raised fresh questions about cockpit security, aviation safety procedures and the screening of airline personnel.
