India Weather Alert Heavy Rain Forecast for Tamil Nadu and Kerala as Bay of Bengal System Approaches Andhra Pradesh

News National | October 25, 2026

Southern India Braces for Heavy Rain

NEW DELHI, October 25: Several parts of southern India are facing heavy-rainfall warnings as weather conditions remain active across the peninsula and a developing system over the Bay of Bengal raises concerns for the eastern coast.

Forecasts issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), as reported by Indian news outlets on Sunday, indicate widespread rainfall over parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala. The developing Bay of Bengal system could bring additional heavy rain and strong winds to coastal Andhra Pradesh later in the week.

The timing and intensity of rainfall will vary by district. Residents should follow the latest IMD bulletins rather than relying solely on broad regional forecasts.

Tamil Nadu and Puducherry: Heavy Rain Warning

Tamil Nadu and the union territory of Puducherry are forecast to experience widespread rainfall during October 25 and 26.

Some areas could receive heavy to very heavy rain, with isolated extremely heavy downpours possible under the forecast issued for October 25 and 26.

Districts identified in published weather reporting include the Nilgiris, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Kallakurichi and Tiruvannamalai, among others.

Heavy rain can lead to waterlogging, reduced road visibility, localised flooding and transport delays. Residents should check local warnings before travelling and avoid crossing flooded roads.

Kerala: Heavy Rain and Thunderstorm Risk

Kerala and Mahe are also forecast to receive widespread rainfall through October 27, with heavy rainfall possible at isolated locations.

The forecast includes the possibility of very heavy or extremely heavy rain in isolated areas. Thunderstorms and gusty winds may accompany some weather events.

People living in landslide-prone areas, near rivers or in locations vulnerable to flash flooding should pay attention to local administration advisories.

Rainfall totals can vary considerably over short distances, so a statewide forecast does not mean every district will experience the same conditions.

Andhra Pradesh: Bay of Bengal System Raises Concern

Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam may experience increasing rainfall as the weather system over the Bay of Bengal develops.

Forecasts published on October 25 indicate the possibility of heavy rainfall from October 27, with isolated extremely heavy rainfall possible during October 27–28.

The system could intensify as it moves across the Bay of Bengal and approach the Andhra Pradesh coast around October 28. Its eventual track, intensity and landfall location remain subject to change.

The weather system may also affect neighbouring Odisha. Residents in coastal districts should monitor official cyclone and rainfall warnings, particularly if authorities issue evacuation instructions or restrict fishing activity.

Telangana and Rayalaseema: Thunderstorms Possible

Parts of Telangana and Rayalaseema may experience thunderstorms and lightning during the coming days. Isolated heavy rainfall is also possible in some areas.

The forecast suggests that weather conditions could change across the region as the Bay of Bengal system develops. However, rainfall intensity and timing will depend on the system’s movement and local atmospheric conditions.

People outdoors during thunderstorms should move to a safe enclosed building and avoid sheltering under isolated trees.

Safety Advice for Residents

Residents in rain-affected areas should take the following precautions:

  1. Monitor official forecasts: Check the latest IMD warnings and district administration updates.

  2. Avoid flooded roads: Do not walk or drive through moving floodwater.

  3. Prepare for local disruption: Keep essential medicines, drinking water, a torch and charged mobile phones available.

  4. Take lightning seriously: Seek shelter indoors during thunderstorms and stay away from exposed locations.

  5. Follow coastal advisories: Fishermen should comply with marine warnings and restrictions.

  6. Do not spread unverified forecasts: Share official weather bulletins instead of old or misleading cyclone graphics.

What to Expect in the Coming Days

The main weather concerns are heavy rainfall over parts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala, followed by the possibility of intense rain along the Andhra Pradesh coast as the Bay of Bengal system develops.

Forecasts may change as new satellite observations and meteorological data become available. Residents should consult updated district-specific alerts, especially during October 26–29.

News National will continue to monitor official weather announcements and publish updates as reliable information becomes available.
