Electric scooter sales tracked in August 2026 hit 188,714 units, up 131% year on year, with Bajaj Chetak and TVS iQube taking more than half the market.

Electric scooter sales in India climbed sharply in August 2026, with the models tracked in a leading sales comparison reaching 188,714 units. That was up from 81,681 units in the same month a year earlier, a rise of 131.04% and an extra 107,033 machines finding buyers. Every model with a prior-year figure posted an increase, and five entries had no comparable sales in August 2025 at all.

Bajaj Chetak stood at the front of the field with 52,248 units, growing 272.83% from 14,014 a year before. The Chetak's gain of 38,234 units was the biggest outright jump of any model on the list and accounted for close to 36% of the entire year-on-year increase. TVS iQube came second at 42,882 units, a 75.50% rise from 24,434, adding 18,448 units and holding a 22.72% market share. Between them, the two nameplates sold 95,130 units, or 50.41% of the tracked total.

Hero Vida took third place with 25,558 units, more than double its year-ago figure of 12,273. That 108.25% increase gave the Vida range a 13.54% slice of the market. Ather Rizta followed in fourth on 22,586 units, up 30.22% from 17,344 and good for an 11.97% share.

TVS Orbiter lifts the group's second brand

TVS Orbiter entered fifth with 14,641 units and no comparable figure from a year earlier. Added to the iQube, TVS models on the list reached 57,523 units, edging past Chetak's standalone tally. The Orbiter has quickly become a serious volume driver rather than a fringe addition to the company's electric line-up.

Ampere Magnus registered 9,772 units, almost doubling from 4,924 a year earlier for growth of 98.46%, or 4,848 extra units. Ather's 450 range came next at 6,891 units, a 27.30% rise from 5,413. River Indie was not far behind on 6,567 units, up a strong 194.62% from 2,229, adding 4,338 units and closing in on the Ather 450.

Newer names build from small starts

Ampere Reo recorded 1,911 units, a 271.79% jump from 514, just ahead of the Honda QC1 on 1,902 units. The QC1 had no volume in the year-ago period. Bajaj Yulu reached 1,500 units from just 150 a year before, a 900% increase that was the steepest percentage gain in the entire table. Ampere Nexus more than doubled as well, rising 106.56% to 756 units.

Among the smallest entries, Suzuki e-Access managed 668 units, Yamaha EC-06 sold 475, and the recently launched Ather Konarc reached 217. None of the three had any sales in the August 2025 comparison. Honda's Activa e: rounded out the list on 140 units, up from 20. The 600% growth looked dramatic, but the raw numbers stayed tiny.

The five models added over the past 12 months contributed 17,903 units combined, with the Orbiter supplying the bulk of that. Even so, most of the market's expansion came from established players. The combined gain from Chetak, iQube and Vida alone was 69,967 units, roughly 65% of the total growth, underlining how heavily August's surge leaned on the best-known brands.
