NSE Trades at 43 Times Earnings, Topping Global Exchange Peers

India's National Stock Exchange is valued at 43 times earnings, a multiple that sits well above comparable stock exchanges around the world.

India's National Stock Exchange (NSE) is being valued at 43 times its earnings, a level that stands well above what comparable exchanges command in other markets.

The price-to-earnings multiple of 43 places NSE at a premium to its global peers. On this measure, investors are paying far more for each rupee of the exchange's profit than they typically pay for a share in stock exchanges elsewhere in the world.

A price-to-earnings ratio compares a company's share price with its per-share profit. A higher figure means the market is assigning a richer valuation. At 43 times earnings, NSE's multiple is a clear outlier when set against exchanges outside India.

The gap between NSE's valuation and that of its international counterparts is the central point of comparison. Where peer exchanges trade at lower multiples, NSE's figure marks it out as one of the most expensively valued operators in its category.

NSE is India's largest stock exchange by trading volume. Its elevated valuation multiple has drawn attention as a marker of how the market is pricing the business relative to established exchanges abroad.
