Seat Sharing Strain In Cong-DMK Alliance; AIADMK Announces ₹10,000 Poll Promise

In Tamil Nadu, seat-sharing talks within the ruling alliance have intensified ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the Indian National Congress have held crucial meetings, including discussions between Chief Minister MK Stalin and Congress leader KC Venugopal. While Congress leaders are publicly maintaining a positive tone, sources say the party is seeking over 40 seats. However, DMK is reportedly willing to offer around 25 seats, citing the need to accommodate new allies such as Kamal Haasan and other regional partners. Congress is also said to be negotiating for a Rajya Sabha seat and greater representation in local body polls.  Meanwhile, the opposition All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), led by Edappadi K. Palaniswami, has announced a fresh round of welfare promises, including direct financial assistance schemes, targeting women, fishermen, and unemployed youth. The announcements were made on the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.
