CERT-In Flags Critical Microsoft Vulnerabilities, Urges Users to Apply Security Updates

CERT-In flags critical Microsoft vulnerabilities and urges organisations to check affected products and install applicable security updates.

By News National Editorial Team

India’s Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has issued critical and high-severity security notices covering vulnerabilities in Microsoft products, warning that affected systems could face risks including unauthorised access, privilege escalation and sensitive information disclosure.

The notices published on October 14, 2026, cover multiple Microsoft products and a separate privilege-escalation vulnerability affecting Microsoft Exchange Server. The affected products and versions vary by advisory, so organisations should check the official notices rather than assume every Microsoft system is vulnerable.

CERT-In warned that some reported weaknesses could allow remote attackers to exploit security gaps and potentially access information or perform unauthorised actions. For organisations using Exchange Server to manage email and collaboration, a successful attack could create risks for confidential messages and mailbox data.

Businesses, government departments and individual users should identify whether they use affected products, review Microsoft’s security guidance and install the relevant updates. IT teams should also monitor systems for suspicious activity, restrict administrative access and maintain current backups.

Applying security updates promptly is an important defence, but organisations should not rely on patching alone. Strong access controls, continuous monitoring and incident-response procedures can help reduce the impact of a successful attack.

CERT-In’s notices do not establish that every affected product has been exploited in active attacks. Administrators should follow the vendor’s instructions and assess their own systems to determine the appropriate response.
