Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on October 8 and sought central assistance to address drought conditions and support major infrastructure projects in the state.

According to the Andhra Pradesh government, Naidu told the Prime Minister that the state had experienced a 53% rainfall deficit, which the state attributes to the impact of El Niño conditions.

Irrigation and infrastructure on agenda

Naidu sought support for several major projects, including the proposed Amaravati Outer Ring Road, Visakhapatnam Metro and Beach Road project.

He also discussed the Polavaram project and sought timely release of funds so construction and rehabilitation work can continue.

The Chief Minister also raised the proposed Godavari-Cauvery river-linking project, which Andhra Pradesh says could potentially benefit several southern states.

Preparing for Godavari Pushkarams

Naidu also discussed preparations for the 2027 Godavari Pushkarams, a major religious event expected to attract devotees from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and other parts of India.

The state government is seeking central support for infrastructure and related development works ahead of the event.

The Prime Minister's Office separately confirmed that Naidu met Modi in New Delhi on October 8.
