India condemned attacks on Saudi airports in Riyadh and Abha as regional tensions continue to disrupt aviation and threaten civilian infrastructure.

India has condemned recent attacks targeting Abha International Airport and King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, after incidents involving Saudi civilian infrastructure caused deaths and injuries.

The Indian Embassy in Riyadh said India considers attacks on civilian infrastructure unacceptable and expressed condolences to the families of those killed. It also wished those injured a speedy recovery.

Growing regional security concerns

The airport incidents come amid a wider escalation in the Middle East, with Saudi Arabia facing attacks attributed by claimants to Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi movement.

On October 8, explosions were reported in Riyadh, including at or near King Khalid International Airport. The Houthis claimed responsibility for a ballistic-missile attack, although the claim was not independently established at the time of reporting.

Saudi-led coalition officials said missiles launched toward Riyadh were intercepted.

Impact on international aviation

The security situation has affected commercial aviation, with airlines reviewing or suspending services to Riyadh.

The developments are particularly important for India because millions of Indians live and work across the Gulf region, while Saudi Arabia remains a major destination for Indian workers, business travellers and pilgrims.

India has called for civilian infrastructure and international navigation routes to remain protected.

The continuing attacks could also have wider effects on aviation, shipping, energy prices and regional trade if disruptions persist.
