Dolly Parton Laid to Rest Beside Husband in Nashville

Dolly Parton was buried beside husband Carl Thomas Dean at Nashville's Woodlawn Memorial Park in a private family funeral, niece Lainey Parton reveals.

Dolly Parton has been laid to rest beside her husband, Carl Thomas Dean, at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum in Nashville. The country music icon's family gathered for an intimate, private funeral at the site, where Dean was buried after his death in March 2025 at age 82.

Dolly's niece, Lainey Parton, confirmed the burial in an Instagram post shared on Saturday, writing that she had waited until after "my granny was laid to rest yesterday" before putting her feelings into words. The post included a series of photographs of the two of them together over the years.

In her tribute, Lainey described her aunt as someone who made her feel "enough" from childhood and never made her dreams feel too big. She wrote that because Dolly could not have children of her own, she treated her nieces and nephews as if they were hers.

Lainey recalled singing with Dolly on her *Smoky Mountain DNA* album while she was a high school freshman, saying her aunt made her feel "safe, confident, and like I belonged" despite her nerves. She also said Dolly financially supported her through beauty school after she chose not to attend college, and later helped her land a role in a movie alongside her.

The family had gathered at the Nashville cemetery a day earlier, on Friday, for the private ceremony. Photographs from the scene showed relatives arriving, including Dolly's nephew Bryan Seaver, who had long served as her head of security. At the time, it remained unclear whether the funeral service itself had taken place that Friday morning.

A Service Kept Private by Design

Parton's representative had said in advance that a "small and private service" would be held for her immediate family, consistent with the singer's own wishes. Her representatives later confirmed to Page Six that she died following a "brief battle" with cancer.

Her team had also asked that fans and friends wishing to pay respects do so not by attending in person but by tagging her on social media or by donating to her literacy nonprofit, the Imagination Library, which gifts books to children.
