Public Outrage: Massive Mourning Across Iran After Khamenei’s Death

Following the reported death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, scenes of mass mourning have emerged across Iran. Millions of supporters have reportedly taken to the streets, chanting religious slogans and calling for retaliation against the United States and Israel. The atmosphere is described as a mix of grief, anger, and defiance, with Khamenei being referred to as a “martyr” by his supporters. A 40-day national mourning period has reportedly been declared. Under Iran’s constitutional framework, an interim leadership arrangement is expected to function in the absence of the Supreme Leader. President Masoud Pezeshkian, along with the head of the judiciary and senior clerical authorities, are expected to oversee governance temporarily. However, Pezeshkian has not made a public appearance, raising questions about stability. Meanwhile, former U.S. President Donald Trump has urged the Iranian public to push for political change and warned of severe consequences if attacks continue. Despite these warnings, Iranian military actions reportedly persist, indicating that escalation remains a strong possibility.
