By News National Editorial Team

Rajasthan authorities have seized more than 22,000 litres of suspected adulterated ghee during raids on two business premises in Sri Ganganagar district. Three people have been arrested as part of a crackdown on alleged food adulteration ahead of the Diwali festival.

According to police information reported on November 1, the seized stock was estimated to be worth approximately ₹1.60 crore. The joint operation involved the CID Crime Branch, local police and food safety officials.

The investigation is part of a statewide campaign targeting the manufacture, storage and distribution of suspected adulterated food products.

More than 22,000 litres seized

Police said the joint teams recovered a total of 22,138 litres of suspected adulterated ghee from two premises. Officials also seized ₹3.50 lakh in cash, which investigators believe was connected to the alleged sale of the products.

The arrested individuals were identified as Ram Tayal, Mukesh Kumar and Vikas Kumar.

The first raid took place at the warehouse and factory of Ananya Trading Company. Officials reportedly recovered 16,394 litres of suspected adulterated ghee packed under several brand names, including Trisalwa, Bansuri, Shrinand and Mayra.

Investigators also found expired ghee, unlabelled containers, packaging materials, stickers, a packing machine and other equipment at the premises.

Expired products allegedly repackaged

During preliminary questioning, the accused allegedly admitted to repackaging expired and returned ghee with fresh labels before selling it in the market, police said.

Investigators are also examining allegations that palm oil and vanaspati sourced from Gujarat were used in preparing products marketed as ghee.

Police suspect that the products were supplied to dealers in Sri Ganganagar and surrounding areas.

These claims remain allegations under investigation. Laboratory examination will be important in determining the actual composition and safety of the seized material.

Second business premises searched

A separate raid was conducted at New Vijay Trading Company on Suratgarh Bypass.

The joint team reportedly seized another 5,744 litres of suspected adulterated ghee from this location.

Food safety officials collected samples from both premises and sent them for laboratory examination. The warehouse at the first location was sealed following the operation.

Authorities said further action would depend on the investigation and the results of the laboratory tests.

Why food safety checks matter before festivals

Demand for ghee and other food products generally increases during major Indian festivals. Increased consumption and market activity make effective food safety inspections particularly important.

Adulterated or improperly stored products can create risks for consumers. However, the quality and composition of the seized stock must be established through appropriate testing rather than assumptions based only on preliminary allegations.

Consumers are advised to purchase packaged food from reliable sellers, check manufacturing and expiry dates, examine packaging integrity and retain purchase bills.

Anyone suspecting food adulteration can report the matter to the relevant state food safety authority or through the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India.

Investigation continues

The Rajasthan operation highlights the importance of coordinated enforcement involving police and food safety departments.

The investigation will now focus on laboratory results, the supply chain, distribution networks and the identities of businesses that may have received the products.

Authorities have not yet established through the reported information that every seized product was unsafe. The final findings will depend on laboratory evidence and the legal investigation.

News National will follow the investigation and report further developments after official confirmation.
