Dedicated Women's Volleyball Academy Proposed for Tirupati; Sports Infrastructure Development Promised

By News National Editorial Team

Tirupati may soon receive a dedicated volleyball academy for women, with the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) expressing its commitment to strengthening sports infrastructure and training facilities for female volleyball players in the region.

SAAP Chairman Animini Ravi Naidu has reiterated his commitment to establishing a dedicated women's volleyball academy in Tirupati. The proposed initiative is expected to create better opportunities for aspiring players through improved coaching, modern sports equipment and upgraded training facilities.

The development follows efforts by local women volleyball players to improve the conditions at the volleyball court on the Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) campus.

Permanent Floodlights Installed at SVU Volleyball Court

As an initial step towards improving sports facilities, permanent floodlights were installed at the SV University Campus School volleyball court.

The facility, reportedly costing Rs 6 lakh, was inaugurated by TTD Board member P. Lakshmi and SAAP Chairman Animini Ravi Naidu in the presence of SV University Registrar Bhupathi Naidu.

The installation followed an assurance given by Ravi Naidu to the players on August 16, 2026.

The new lighting facility is expected to help women volleyball players continue their training during evening and night hours, providing greater flexibility for practice sessions.

Focus on Better Training and Sports Infrastructure

Speaking during the development initiative, SAAP Chairman Ravi Naidu indicated that additional support would be provided in phases.

The proposed improvements include modern sports equipment, better coaching facilities and additional infrastructure to strengthen volleyball training opportunities in Tirupati.

The proposed women's volleyball academy is an important part of this commitment. If implemented, it could provide a more organised training environment for young athletes and help identify and develop talented players from Tirupati and surrounding districts.

Opportunities for Women Athletes

Sports facilities play an important role in encouraging young people to participate in organised physical activities and competitive sports.

For women athletes, access to proper training grounds, experienced coaches, sports equipment and suitable practice schedules can make a significant difference in their development.

A dedicated volleyball academy could help aspiring players receive structured coaching and prepare for district, state and national-level competitions.

Tirupati and the surrounding Rayalaseema region have young sporting talent across several disciplines. Better facilities and institutional support could help more athletes pursue sports as a serious career.

Academy Proposal: Implementation Will Be Key

Although the installation of floodlights represents a tangible improvement, the proposed women's volleyball academy is still a commitment rather than a confirmed operational institution.

Further details regarding its location, funding, construction schedule, coaching appointments, admission procedures and training programmes have not yet been officially established in the reported announcement.

The actual impact of the initiative will depend on how effectively the proposal is implemented and whether sustained support is provided to women athletes.

The development has raised expectations among local volleyball players for better training opportunities and stronger sports infrastructure in Tirupati.

Source Transparency: This report is based on The New Indian Express report published on August 26, 2026, regarding the installation of permanent floodlights at the SV University volleyball court and the SAAP Chairman's commitment to establishing a dedicated women's volleyball academy.
