The Ram Temple in Ayodhya has received the highest “Ati Vishisht” rating under the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India’s (FSSAI) Eat Right Place of Worship initiative, according to a report published by Hindustan Times on October 11.

The report said the temple scored 103 out of 114 points in an assessment covering food safety, hygiene and quality standards associated with the preparation and distribution of prasad. Five other places of worship in Ayodhya were also reported to have received certification under the programme.

What the rating assesses

The FSSAI initiative, also known as the BHOG programme—Blissful Hygienic Offering to God—is intended to encourage safe food handling at places of worship. Such facilities may serve large numbers of devotees, making hygiene, clean preparation areas, safe storage and proper distribution important parts of food safety.

A high assessment score indicates that a place of worship performed well against the criteria applied during the evaluation. It should not be interpreted as a guarantee that every food item or every future batch is risk-free. Food safety requires continued monitoring and consistent compliance.

Why it matters for devotees

The Ram Temple attracts devotees from across India and abroad. Prasad is an important part of the religious experience, and transparent food-safety practices can help build public confidence in how offerings are prepared and distributed.

The certification also draws attention to the broader role of food-safety standards in religious institutions, where large gatherings can place pressure on kitchens, storage facilities and distribution systems.

Devotees should continue to follow any instructions issued by temple management regarding food distribution and visitor facilities. Further details about the inspection date, certificate validity and specific recommendations can be confirmed through official FSSAI or temple-authority communications.
