Guwahati, Assam, October 11, 2026

The Narcotics Control Bureau's Guwahati Zonal Unit has seized more than 53 kilograms of methamphetamine and WY tablets in a drug enforcement operation, according to a report published by Akashvani News. Two people were arrested, and authorities estimated the illicit-market value of the seized substances at approximately ₹43 crore.

The operation adds to continuing enforcement efforts aimed at disrupting the movement and distribution of illegal drugs in the Northeast. The region's location near international borders and major transport routes makes coordinated intelligence and enforcement important to investigations into suspected trafficking networks.

The NCB has not been independently quoted in the material reviewed on every detail of the case, so information about the suspected origin, destination and intended recipients of the consignment should be confirmed against its official statement before publication.

Investigation and legal process

After a seizure, investigators generally seek to establish where the substances originated, how they were transported, who organised the movement and whether additional people or locations are connected to the case.

The two arrested individuals are suspects, and their guilt must be determined through the legal process. Authorities may conduct further questioning, forensic examination and financial investigation as part of the case.

The estimated value of a drug seizure is usually based on an assessment of the illicit market and should not be confused with a verified transaction value or the amount of money recovered during the operation.

Why the seizure matters

Illegal drug trafficking can create serious public-health and community-safety risks. Enforcement agencies use seizures, arrests and intelligence-sharing to disrupt supply chains, while prevention programmes and access to treatment are also important parts of the wider response to substance misuse.

The Northeast's geography makes cooperation between central agencies, state police and other enforcement bodies significant. However, a single seizure does not by itself establish the scale of a trafficking network or prove links to any particular organisation.

The next developments in this case are likely to depend on forensic findings, court proceedings and any additional information released by investigators.

News National will update the report if the NCB publishes further verified details about the seizure, the substances recovered or the investigation.
