India women defeated Zimbabwe by four wickets in the first T20I after Deepti Sharma scored 49 and Niki Prasad made 39 in the chase.

October 16 India defeated Zimbabwe by four wickets in the first women's T20 International, chasing a target of 115 runs and taking a 1–0 lead in the three-match series.

Zimbabwe scored 114 for five in 20 overs. India reached 116 for six in 15.4 overs, completing the chase despite losing four wickets early in the innings.

Deepti Sharma scored 49 runs from 37 balls, while Niki Prasad contributed 39 from 35 balls. Their partnership helped India recover from a difficult start and move towards victory.

India recover after early wickets

India's chase came under pressure when the team slipped to 22 for four. The early wickets gave Zimbabwe an opportunity to defend its total, but Sharma and Prasad stabilised the innings.

Sharma's contribution was particularly important, and she was named Player of the Match. Prasad also made a significant contribution during a challenging phase of the chase.

India eventually reached the target with four wickets remaining, avoiding a major upset in the series opener.

Zimbabwe put up a fight

Zimbabwe's total of 114 for five proved competitive after India's early collapse. The visitors took wickets at important moments, but India recovered through the middle order.

The match demonstrated how quickly momentum can shift in T20 cricket, where a small number of partnerships can determine the outcome.

India's win gives the team an early advantage in the series. Zimbabwe will aim to level the contest in the next match, while India will look to build on the performance.

The remaining fixtures will provide both teams opportunities to assess their batting combinations, bowling plans and execution under pressure.
