Tirupati municipal elections recorded 89 nominations on the first day, including one for Mayor and 88 for corporator positions, according to local reporting.

TIRUPATI, October 17: A total of 89 nominations were filed on the first day of the nomination process for Tirupati Municipal Corporation elections, according to a report published by The Hans India on Saturday.

The nomination process began on Friday. Of the 89 submissions reported, one was for the Mayor's post and 88 were for corporator positions.

The report identified Aam Aadmi Party candidate Neerugattu Nagesh as the candidate who filed a nomination for Mayor.

Party-wise nomination figures

According to the figures published by The Hans India, YSR Congress Party candidates filed 61 nominations, followed by the Telugu Desam Party with 10. Jana Sena Party filed four nominations, while the Communist Party of India filed one. Independent and other candidates accounted for 12 nominations.

These are nomination filings reported for the first day, not the final list of candidates eligible to contest.

What happens next?

Following submission, nomination papers are scrutinised by election officials. Candidates may withdraw within the prescribed period, after which the final list of contesting candidates is published in accordance with the election schedule.

A nomination does not automatically establish that a candidate has met all eligibility requirements. The official scrutiny results and final candidate list remain important.

Civic issues in focus

Municipal elections influence decisions about roads, drainage, drinking water, sanitation, waste collection, street lighting and public spaces.

Tirupati's role as a major pilgrimage destination also makes traffic management, cleanliness and visitor facilities significant local issues.

Voters should examine candidates' records, proposals and plans for local services rather than relying only on party announcements.

Where to verify election information

The reported nomination figures should be checked against official election records as the process progresses. The Andhra Pradesh State Election Commission and the relevant municipal election authorities are the appropriate sources for confirmed candidate lists, election schedules and polling instructions.
