Romania's Dracula Land project plans a 164-hectare resort with a theme park, 22,500-seat arena, water park and 1,200 hotel rooms.

BUCHAREST, ROMANIA

Romania is preparing an ambitious tourism and entertainment project inspired by one of the world's most famous vampire legends. Called Dracula Land, the proposed €1 billion-plus development aims to create a large entertainment destination combining a Dracula-themed amusement park, hotels, shopping, water attractions and live events.

Located near Bucharest, the project has recently reached an important planning milestone, with developers announcing that the masterplan for its first major development phase has been completed.

Spanning approximately 164 hectares, the proposed destination is designed to attract international tourists and establish Romania as a major European entertainment and leisure destination.

What is Dracula Land?

Dracula Land is a privately funded entertainment and tourism development promoted by Romanian entrepreneur Dragoș Dobrescu.

The project draws inspiration from the legend of Dracula, which became internationally famous through Bram Stoker's 1897 novel Dracula.

The development is planned at Gherghița, in Prahova County, approximately 20 minutes from Bucharest and 15 minutes from Henri Coandă International Airport, according to the developers.

The first major phase could involve an investment exceeding €1 billion, with funding planned through private capital and phased development.

Six themed zones and major attractions

The central attraction will be a large theme park featuring six immersive zones and dozens of major attractions.

The concept combines Dracula-inspired storytelling with Romanian cultural heritage, Gothic architecture, themed entertainment and modern amusement rides.

Visitors could experience attractions designed around mysterious castles, fantasy environments and the legend of the fictional vampire.

The final attractions and operating arrangements will depend on the development and selection of international operators.

A 22,500-seat entertainment arena

One of the most significant features of the proposed complex is a multipurpose arena with a capacity of approximately 22,500 people.

The venue is planned to host:

  • International concerts and music festivals.

  • Esports competitions.

  • Sporting events.

  • Large entertainment shows.

  • Corporate and cultural events.

The arena is intended to make Dracula Land an entertainment destination beyond traditional amusement-park activities.

Three hotels with 1,200 rooms

The first major development phase also includes three themed hotels with a combined capacity of approximately 1,200 rooms.

The proposed hotels are:

  1. Dracula Grand Hotel – a planned four-star property.

  2. Dracula Family Hotel – designed for family visitors.

  3. Dracula Hotel – another themed accommodation option.

The resort is also expected to include conference facilities and premium hospitality services.

Water park, shopping and artificial ski slope

The development is not limited to its Dracula-themed attractions.

The masterplan also includes an Aqua Park and Spa, an outlet shopping destination featuring international brands, restaurants and an artificial ski slope.

These facilities are intended to attract visitors throughout the year rather than depending entirely on the summer tourism season.

The combination of accommodation, entertainment, retail and recreational facilities is designed to encourage longer stays.

When will construction begin and when could it open?

The project was initially announced in December 2025, when developers presented an ambitious construction and opening timetable.

However, an important update was announced on October 29, 2026.

The developers confirmed that the masterplan for the first major phase had been completed and that construction preparations were progressing. Discussions with international investors and potential operators are continuing.

No confirmed public opening date has been announced. The previously circulated 2029 opening estimate should therefore not be treated as an official schedule.

The project is being planned in phases, and the timing of individual attractions will depend on financing, partnerships, approvals and construction progress.

Can Dracula Land become a major European tourist destination?

Romania already attracts international visitors interested in medieval castles, historic towns and Transylvania's association with the Dracula legend.

A large entertainment resort near Bucharest could add another attraction to the country's tourism industry.

However, completing a project of this scale will require substantial investment, experienced theme-park operators, regulatory approvals and long-term management.

For now, Dracula Land remains an ambitious development project rather than an operating amusement park.

If successfully completed, it could offer visitors an unusual combination of Romanian history, vampire-inspired fantasy, modern entertainment and resort experiences.
