Google Launches Global Access to AI Performance Reports

SEO news Google rolls out AI performance reports and Search generative AI controls in Search Console globally, letting publishers track and control their content in AI search.

Google has rolled out AI performance reports and Search generative AI controls globally within Search Console as of August 31, 2026. After months of gradual deployment, these features are now accessible to all websites with a Search Console account worldwide.

The AI performance report provides publishers with visibility into how their content performs in Google's generative AI search features. The report tracks performance across AI responses, AI Mode, and AI Overviews in Google Search. Site owners can view their data segmented by impressions, pages, countries, devices, and dates to understand patterns in how their content appears in AI search across regions and device types. The report does not include click data.

Google confirmed the global availability by updating multiple support documents on August 31. This completes a phased rollout that had begun months earlier with limited availability before gradual expansion.

Accompanying the performance report is a new toggle in Search Console that allows website owners to block their content from appearing in AI search features. Through this control, site owners decide whether their content participates in and helps ground responses within Google's AI Overviews, AI Mode, and AI Overviews in Discover.

For sites that opt out, the consequences are direct: they will not receive traffic or impressions from Google's generative AI search features. Yet Google clarified an important limitation: the opt-out control will not function as a ranking signal for standard web search results. This means that blocking content from AI features will not negatively impact a site's visibility in core Google Search rankings, allowing publishers to make participation decisions without concern for traditional search performance.

Publishers have requested these controls since Google first introduced its AI search features several years ago. With this global rollout, all publishers now have access to both performance tracking and management tools for their participation in Google's expanding generative AI search offerings. The move addresses long-standing demand from site owners seeking transparency and agency over their content in AI-powered search results.
