Delhi Police said its Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit prevented potential cyber-fraud losses of ₹1.53 crore by intervening in five cases involving victims across five states.

According to the police, the cases involved suspicious money transfers and fraud attempts in Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat. Several victims were senior citizens who were allegedly targeted through so-called “digital arrest” scams.

In these schemes, fraudsters may impersonate police officers, investigators or officials from government agencies and threaten victims with arrest. They use fear and pressure to persuade people to transfer money or reveal banking information.

Police stressed that “digital arrest” is not a lawful arrest procedure. Government and law-enforcement officials do not arrest people over video calls or require them to transfer money to “verify” or “secure” funds.

Authorities have advised people to disconnect suspicious calls, avoid sharing one-time passwords or banking details, and contact the official cybercrime helpline at 1930 or report incidents through cybercrime.gov.in.

The case highlights the importance of quickly reporting suspicious transactions and contacting banks and law enforcement before additional money is transferred.
