India's Namo Bharat regional rapid rail service marked three years of operations, with officials highlighting its role in improving connectivity across the National Capital Region.

The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) observed Namo Bharat Diwas 2026 in New Delhi on October 17. Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal and Minister of State Tokhan Sahu attended the event, according to the government.

The occasion was used to review progress in regional mobility, multimodal transport integration and first- and last-mile connectivity. These links are important because passengers need convenient ways to reach stations from homes, workplaces and other transport hubs.

NCRTC also highlighted sustainability measures, including the development of a 110-megawatt captive solar power plant and its “Solar on Track” initiative. Such projects are intended to support the system's environmental and financial sustainability.

Regional rapid transit systems are designed to connect major urban centres with surrounding areas and provide an alternative to road travel. Their long-term impact will depend on reliable services, station access, passenger demand and integration with other public transport.
